Playground Distribution Dwarf
For a while there, we were sure it was dead. Like that scene in E. T. where the machine that goes “beep” no longer goes “beep”, and you cry because E. T. is gone and it’s all horribly sad. And then all of a sudden he moves, and is all like “phone home” and the audience is like “yay” and you go out and party and get drunk and have an orgy and the aliens finally land on earth FOR REAL and things are AMAZING!
It’s like that with Playground right now. The Danes have arrived to make it all better again.
Dear Playground readers,
This last year has been interesting, fun, challenging and troublesome. We’ve got three issues out, and the fourth one is being done as I’m writing this.
And it will be our final issue.
Update: Playground will continue with a new Danish editor during 2012.
A central meeting ground in the Nordic roleplaying scene is the annual conference Knudepunkt (en. meeting point or nodal point). The conference changes location every year within the Nordic countries and locally the term is translated into Swedish Knutpunkt, Norwegian Knutepunkt and Finnish Solmukohta.
Even though it’s a nordic thing, the impact and academic edge has put Knudepunkt on the map and every year participants are coming from all over the world.
On this years Knudepunkt year the Danish organizers had the aim to film several of the sessions which you of course should watch. Also, quite a lot of the documentation from the sessions are available on the site.
For next year, mark April 12th-15th in your calendar and prepare for Solmukohta 2012 in Finland. It’ll be worth the trip, and also, the have saunas.

Theme
The theme of the first issue of Playground is bleed, the way fictional experiences affect people and how our lives affect our fictional experiences. What happens when you fall in love with a videogame character? When you ask your neighbor to murder you in the name of art? Is it possible to make a game about a subject like gang rape? Apart from bleed, we also talk about larp in Poland, the S&M games of J. Tuomas Harviainen and getting laid through roleplay.
